SRI GURUBHYO NAMAH SRI PARAMA GURUBHYO NAMAH
SRI PARAMESHTHI GURUBHYO NAMAH
It is my long-time desire to know the meaning of Daharakaasha roopini, the 609 th Nama in Sri Lalita sahasranama. I am sharing my understanding of this NAMA in the blog.
Akasha is sky, space, ether etc., and Dahara is small, thin, fine etc. Shall we simply say Ambal is in the form of small sky, small space? Once we tell this, the question arise as to which is the small sky referred here.
Sri Bhaskara Makhin, in his Bhashya ask us to refer to Chandogya Upanishad Ch VIII to know more about Daharakasha. To understand the Ch VIII of the Chandogya Upanishad I have referred to the Bhashya of Sri Shankara Bhagavatpada.
In Brahmapura, that is in the gross & subtle body there are many officers and administrative system is established. They are the organs of the body and intellect.
In this Brahmapura lies a Lotus like palace for Brahman. The palace compared to the size of the city of Brahman is very small and, in that palace, there is another small space, akasha, that is called Brahman. This Space, akasha, accomplishes Name and form
Brahman is subtle and all pervasive like space. What and which is existed in this space has to be known. It is to be directly realized by seeking the help of a GURU and such means as hearing, studying etc., The Brahman has the same expanse as the space.
The small space with in the Lotus like heart is as vast as outside Space, outside Akasha!!! Within this smallest of smallest space lies heaven, earth, Fire, air, Sun, Moon, lightening, stars, so to say the BRAHMANDA ITSELF.
Upanishad says that, “it is said so since there is no other example which can suitably illustrate Brahman”
Brihadaranyaka Upanishad Verse No 11 in the 8 th Brahmana of third Chapter reads. “That imperishable is unseen but it is the seer. It is unheard but the hearer, it is unthought but is the thinker, it is unknown but is the knower. Such an imperishable is space, woven like warp and woof. By this immutable, Nirvikalpa, O Gargi, is space pervaded.
Every thing is included in the city of Brahman, the physical and subtle body. When decrepitude, decay takes place or when the city is destroyed, only that remains to exist is BRAHMAN. Brahman does not become deformed through the decrepitude, decay of the Brahmapura, the body. It is not killed on the killing of this body.
Geetacharya said the same:-
“nainaṃ chindanti śastrāṇi nainaṃ dahati pāvakaḥ
na cainaṃ kledayantyāpo na śoṣayati mārutaḥ”
No weapon can cut this into pieces, nor can it be burned by fire,
nor moistened by water, nor withered by the wind.
This is the true city which is BRAHMAN. This is the SELF which has no sin, no decrepitude, no death, no sorrow, no hunger, no thirst.
DAARAKASHA IS BRAHMAN IDENTIFIED IN THE SMALLEST OF THE SMALLEST SPACE IN THE LOTUS HEART. SREEMATHA IS DAHARAKASHA ROOPINI. FORM OF SREEMATHA IS DAHARAKASHA. DAHARAKASHA IS BRAHMAN. BRAHMAN IS SELF, ATMAN, THAT IS SREEMATHA. BRAHMA SVAROOPINI, ATMASVAROPINI. ONE SHOULD REALISE HER IN DAHARAKASHA AND NO WHERE ELSE.
DEVI Confirms this in Devyupanishad saying “ Sabraveedaham Brahma svaroopini”
DAHARA is not small as the name suggests but it is the whole UNIVERSE itself.
This is my humble effort to understand the meaning of DAHARAKASHA ROOPINI, though I am well aware that the Understanding DAHARAKASHA is beyond the very little knowledge I possess by HER grace.
My sincere prayers at the Lotus feet of SREEMATHA to bless all her devotees to realize HER DAHARAKASHA POOPA.
