SRI GURUBHYO NAMAH SRI PARAMA GURUBHYO NAMAH SRI PARAMESHTHI GURUBHYO NAMAH
Sri Lalita Sahasranama # 355 reads as’ SAMHRUTAA SESHAPAASHANDA”. Some prints reads this Nama as ” SAMHRUTAA SESHAPAAKHANDA”
Which one among the above two is the proper Nama is the common doubt raised by many who are chanting Sri Lalita Sahasranama.
In case of such doubts, we have to look at one and only one Soubhagya Bhaskara, the Lalita Sahasranama Bhashya by Sri Bhasuranandanatha, who is the authority on Sri Vidya and Sri Lalita Sahasranama.
Sri Bhasuranandanatha gives the meaning of this nama as ‘ Destroyer of all heretics”
He further quotes from Linga purana to describe the nature of heretics. Heretics are those who observes the vows not enjoined in the Vedas and those who are excluded from the ceremonies enjoined by the Shriti and Smruthis. He also quotes from Brahma Vaivartha Purana to explain the same meaning for PAASHANDA.
Sri Bhasuranandanatha refers to “PAAKHANDA” and also gives its meaning. “Pa” means “meaning of the Vedas” . ‘Khanda” is cutting off.
Since Paashanda and Paakhanda both giving the same meaning he approves both as correct. The devotee may chose any of the two.
The message in this Nama is very clear and loud. Those not following vaidik rituals as described in shruti and smritis are the PAASHANDAS or PAAKHANDAS and “SHE” will destroy them. The next Nama being ‘ Sadachara pravartika” and hence destroying Paashands / paakhandas means, not eliminating them but make them follow ‘ Sadachara” that is following Vedic rituals.
